The latest virtual reality technologies almost allow us to transcend true reality. This offers artists the opportunity to pursue a long-cherished vision: to overcome the boundary between real and virtual space with the aim of completely immersing the viewer. Creating immersion is an artistic endeavor that can be traced back a long way in the history of art. But what are the vital aspects for young artists dealing with immersion today? What is the essence of the recently conceived artificial worlds? And what artistic strategies have artists in the recent past deployed to transcend the boundary between factual reality and virtual space, between two and three dimensions? Looking back to look ahead, the exhibition brings together immersive positions in artistic practice from recent years and new works created especially for the show. Artificial Paradise? Immersion in Space and Time invites visitors to immerse themselves in virtual environments, while also offering the opportunity to dwell on the threshold to virtuality so as to glimpse inside artificial paradise.
